In order to comprehensively advance the implementation of the "Distinguished Teachers, Outstanding Students, and Superior Courses," also known as the "Three Excellence Plan," further strengthen curriculum development and reform, creating high-quality classrooms and promoting the professional growth of full-time teachers, School of International Education (SIE) organized the "Outstanding Classroom" selection for the spring semester of 2023. This selection process involved the participation of five esteemed professors, namely Wang Ziru, Yang Chunqiu, Wang Yijing, Yu Zhijia, and Jin Zhengguo, who served as evaluation experts at Dalian University of Technology. Their role was to diagnose and analyze the classroom teaching of teachers in SIE with problem-oriented approach, and to aid participating teachers in effectively enhancing the classroom teaching quality.
After an initial phase of classroom observations and on-site presentations by participating teachers, a total of three outstanding classrooms were selected in this semester. These were led by instructor Song Peng for "Intermediate Chinese Comprehensive," instructor Gao Jing for "Intermediate Chinese Comprehensive I," and insturctor Yu Miao for "Elementary Spoken Chinese."
Following the conclusion of the selection process, SIE convened a feedback session, during which the evaluation experts provided individual assessments for each participating teacher. These evaluations encompassed various aspects, including application forms, teaching methods, instructional design, teaching demeanor, teaching materials, Chinese culture teaching, etc. The experts also provided insights into considerations for future participation in teaching competitions and guidance for personal professional development. The experts' feedback, guided by addressing issues, not only offered valuable advice for teaching but also provided professional guidance for participating in teaching competitions and individual career development. Attendees of the session expressed their appreciation for such one-on-one expert feedback with teachers. They found this experience to be enlightening and valuable. The dedication and professionalism of the experts left a lasting impact, prompting teachers to undertake self-reflection and strive for excellence teaching.
This selection activity not only showcased the solid foundation and remarkable expertise of the SIE's faculty but also highlighted areas for growth and improvement in the teaching process. The organization of this selection activity motivated teachers to refresh their educational perspectives, align with higher-level classroom evaluation standards, meticulously refine international Chinese language classrooms, continuously elevate teaching quality, explore unique features of international Chinese language education with Dalian University of Technology characteristics, and contribute to the university's development toward becoming a top-tier institution.
