In order to enhance teaching competence, research standards, pedagogical development, and the overall educational environment, the School of International Education (SIE) organized the-first-session “Seeking the Path” Teaching Salon Lecture on the afternoon of June 27th in SIE Conference Room. This event also aims at fostering peer interaction and promoting professional development among the faculty. The session featured an engaging lecture by Professor You Zhishen, an accomplished educator who has been recognized with the first rank prize in Liaoning Province's Teaching Innovation Competition and the "Design Star" award in the National Higher Education Mixed Teaching Innovation Competition. Professor You's presentation centered on the theme of "Developing First-Rate Language Courses." The event was presided over by Associate Professor Guo Hanning, Assistant to the Dean of SIE, and attended by the entire teaching staff.
Drawing from her extensive teaching and research experience, Professor You shared insights into the strategies and methodologies involved in crafting outstanding language courses. By combining theoretical guidance with practical examples from various teaching competitions, she delved into topics such as course description, pedagogical analysis, innovative techniques, and distinctive features that contribute to creating a successful language curriculum. Furthermore, Professor You elaborated on her own experiences and takeaways from the National Higher Education Teaching Innovation Competition, aligning her insights with the competition's evaluation criteria. The lecture resonated deeply with attendees due to its comprehensive content, incisive analysis, and relevance. Building upon Professor You's presentation, the attending teachers engaged in discussions that were tailored to the distinctive characteristics of international Chinese language education. Conversations covered topics such as teaching philosophy, instructional methodologies, team building, curriculum development, and solutions to common challenges encountered in teaching practice.
In concluding remarks, Associate Professor Guo Hanning highlighted the systematic nature of developing language courses. She emphasized the importance of integrating teaching practice, pedagogical research, innovation, and competition participation. She expressed the hope that the experiences shared during this Teaching Salon would inspire faculty members to explore new avenues in curriculum development, teaching reform, team collaboration, and personal growth, thereby encouraging all instructors to commit their energy to course construction.
The Teaching Salon initiative reflects SIE's commitment to advancing the depth and quality of teaching. This endeavor aims to stimulate dialogues among educators, broaden research horizons, and facilitate professional development. The school intends to regularly organize the teaching salon series with themes related to "Distinguished Teachers, Outstanding Students, and Superior Courses" program. This approach aligns with the goals of developing a premier curriculum system, renowned courses, exceptional classrooms, and the "Perceiving China" extracurricular activities. Through these efforts, SIE aspires to elevate the quality of instruction, serve as a model, enhance the educational experience of international students, and establish the brand of "Study at DUT".
